For your fellow schedule nerds, take note of the games Stiegelmeier talked about.

Next week's Yankton Quarterback Club speaker is USD women's coach Amy Williams, so make plans to be there. Wednesday noon at the Elks Lodge, near Fox Run Golf Course.

Jeremy has his video interview with Stiegelmeier posted (see earlier in the chat feed). He is also working on a blog about Stieg's talk today.

I will have a preview of Yankton-Bon Homme, Vermillion and Wagner in the state gymnastics meet this weekend. Story runs on Thursday, team day is Friday, indlvidual day Saturday. State meet is in Aberdeen.

I'm a recruiting nerd, so yes, that's a big rivalry there between Mount Marty and DWU. They go against each other a ton for high school kids. Makes for an interesting follow.

Plenty going on this week. Thursday's paper will have coverage of tonight's DWU-MMC basketball doubleheader. For us Mount Marty alumni, there is no bigger rival than the Tigers.

A few minutes left. Time for one or two more topics, or we can continue on this one.

It just gets to be old. You start taking away from the kids and their experiences. That's what it's about, right? Or is it all about winning and reaching a state tournament?
View Article4:18 Robert Nielsen
I agree with Jeremy: a team needs to stop worrying about the other teams' schedules and focus on their own. If you win enough to get into the tournament, great. If you don't..don't blame your schedule,...

More people should be willing to let things play out. And not whine about everything.

Nothing wrong with being willing to admit you're not an expert, Kyle. I've been known to do that on occasion, and more people should be willing to admit they don't know everything rather than spouting...

I agree with you, Jeremy. Whether Yankton's seeded 1st or 4th in the district, they will have to beat at least one team that beat them earlier this year in order to go to state, probably 2.
View Article4:16 James D. Cimburek
Based on current points, if you did a 1-18 seeding scenario, Yankton would host O'Gorman to go to state. That was a 1-point game up there a couple of weeks ago.
View Article4:14 jeremyhoeck
At some point, people need to quit whining about schedules and just go play. At the end of the season, go back and look at the number of games decided by a handful of points...then come back and tell...

Well there is just such a discrepancy in the quality of opponents. It's not like kids are born more athletic around here, there are just A LOT more kids/schools in this part of the state.

I like the current playoff points system, though I would love to see the state go to a 1-18 seeding process. It will never happen because some in the state believe that each region should be...
View Article4:12 James D. Cimburek
But you did agree, Kyle, that a playoff system needs to factor in strength of schedule. That puts you ahead of a lot of people.

I will no longer comment as I don't know much on that topic.
View Article4:10 James D. Cimburek
I agree with you Kyle. The question, though, more concerns basketball. S.D. went to a weighted system just this year, and already there are people trying to get it removed.

You can't do straight winning percentage. Other parts of the state may not want to hear it, but its been proven over and over again. The overall quality of football is much higher in the southeaster...

I realize there's not much leyway in high school scheduling, but wouldn't that lead a school to want an "easier" schedule? Load up on the wins? Rather than trying to test yourself against the best?

I pose this question to the person(s) who voted that straight winning percentage should be the determining factor on high school playoff seeds: Why is that a better way than a formula that includes...

Great point. I believe it was Saul Phillips last year saying that the crowd factor alone puts the opposing team down 10 points.

Coyote women are also rather hot of late, winning 5 of 6 to climb into third place at 5-5. Still a far separation between SDSU/IUPUI and the rest of the league.

That could be a very big game for both of those teams, especially considering the top seed gets a bye into the semifinals this year.
